The Camera Obscura is a huge part of every Fatal Frame game. Usually it is either acquired as a hand-me-down or discovered in some place within the game. The Camera is the only 'weapon' the main character is given to survive, and relies on special film retrieved by exploring different areas in the main character's setting. By taking pictures of the evil spirits, the Camera Obscura not only captures them, but attains Spirit Points as well. The better the picture, the more points are received. These points can then be used in the main menu to upgrade the Camera, giving it more strength, a bigger Fatal Frame Circle, special abilities such as Paralyze and Crush, etc. more...

'Information on the newest Fatal Frame game'
According to NintendoPad, who cite a French games magazine,
Fatal Frame IV: The Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
could arrive in April or May 2010.
The game is being crafted for the Wii,
and was originally mooted for release
across Europe in February,
before slipping below the radar.
Tecmo haven't said anything on this new title yet,
so everything remains purely speculative for now.
Still, the game has been out in Japan since last summer.
